Reasons You Should Not Quit without Notice Before You Work in Canada

Your employer doesn’t really care about you and will fire you anytime they want to. So why you do have to bother giving them two weeks of notice before you leave them? Well, you might not really agree with the idea that employees must not quit without giving prior notice to their employers, but this is how it actually works! Aside from the fact that it is a decent and respectful way of leaving your company, it makes you look really professional.

If you’re still not convinced that you have to notify your employer ahead about your resignation, here are some more reasons you should:

1. Your employer/boss is not the only one who matters.

When you leave your job, it’s not only your boss that you’re going to leave behind. You have your clients, peers, and coworkers to say proper goodbye to. They cannot blame your boss for letting you leave without notice, but they will surely be disappointed with you for leaving them hanging.

2. You just can’t burn bridges.

No matter how far the distance between your previous company is to your new workplace, there is always a possibility that you will run into your former coworkers again in the future. Perhaps one of your coworkers who had a hard time completing your unfinished projects will end up as the hiring manager for the job you’ll apply for in the future.

3. You might decide to return to this company eventually.

You could hate your company as much as you want, but you can never be sure that you will never want to be part of it in the future. There are so many things that may happen to you and your career in the future, and there is no way you can guess where you will be a couple of years from now. Thus, you should always welcome the thought of going back to where you are right now.

4. This is the best way you can get yourself a bad reference from your previous boss.

There is no way you can expect to hear good words about you from someone you betrayed, which in this case is your former boss. How can he or she become a good reference if you didn’t even have the decency to inform them of your plan to quit your job. Yes, you may choose to not include this boss to your list of reference, but there are still many ways your potential employer may get in touch with your previous employer.

It doesn’t matter whether you are going to work in Canada or in another local company, you need to inform your employer about your impending resignation. Besides, your company may have welcomed you as a new member of their team before, so it shouldn’t be a burden for you to leave them in a professional manner as well.
